Water Jet Cutting Tools – Better Choice for Prototyping Over Traditional Laser Metal Cutting Tools |
|

|
You Need It When?
When seeking a two dimensional cut for a prototype, Water Jet is arguably, for most applications, the technology of choice. Many prototypes that require the intricate cutting of stainless steel and aluminum are not possible thru traditional laser metal cutting tools. Parts that cannot be compromised by heat, parts that cannot have warpage, and parts that esthetically cannot have discoloration are a few examples of Water Jet technology benefits.
Laser technology has a faster cutting speed, but is limited with many material cuts due to reflective surfaces and the effect of heat. Also laser metal cutting tools have a thickness limit, and cannot stack or layer cuts.
Wire EDM is a very precise technology, but is very slow.
Typical CNC mills require a long setup and programming factor, making fast turnaround both difficult and expensive.
Water Jet cutting tools can cut Aluminum, Stainless, Tool steel, Mild steel, Inconel, Hastalloy, Titanium, Other exotic alloys, Brass, Copper, Graphite, Stone, Marble, Granite, Ceramic, Laminated glass, Bulletproof glass, Engineered stone, Carbon fiber, Silicone, Composites, Fiberglass, Plastic, Rubber, Wood, Paper, Leather, Foam, and many many other materials, without damaging polished, painted, or otherwise finished surfaces.
Water Jet Advantages Include:
- Material nesting
- Multiple layer cutting
- No heat
- Tolerances +/- .003
- Fast setup and programming
- No start holes needed
- Minimum kerf
- No secondary tooling
- No tool changing
- Minimal fixturing
- Environmentally friendly
